My World of Animals

I just finished my debut book which I call ‘My World of Animals’. This book talks about some interesting animals that we can find on earth. To be honest, I have no legitimate say in zoology since most things that I do know on animals I learnt myself by reading books and internet articles. Even when writing my book I had re-teach myself some things about the animals. What’s my motivation for all this studying and writing? I have a strong affinity for animals. This affinity has driven me to study further about animals and the world they live in.

My interest in the animal kingdom began when I was about 3-4 years old. Despite this fact, I started to write about animals since August of 2013. What’s interesting, is that when I planned this book, I planned to have 50 animals featured, but due to time constraints and other factors, the final cut only has 40 animals. But I do have plans to include the 10 animals that I left out in a future book, so keep a lookout on that! A common question for me is how I choose the animals that I write about - the animals that I write about are chosen by a combination of the animals’ appeal and my personal preference. Let’s face it – I write better about the animals that I am familiar with.

Besides writing my books to share my interests to the world, another reason that I actually wrote this book is the Indonesian saying that ‘you can’t love what you don’t understand’. I truly believe that this phrase strongly applies to our view towards the animal kingdom – I believe that many people in my country and elsewhere, actually, that gravely underestimate the fate of animals. Animals that we could’ve save – that we don’t have to kill – are killed. And people never bat an eye towards this dilemma. Even when many people don’t act like it, I would say that you, dear reader, are not so different from any living creature that share guardianship of our earth.

Since there are over a million of animal species that lives on earth right now, My World of Animals can basically go on forever. Right now, I’m heavily focusing on the progress of the sequel to My World of Animals (which I wrote while waiting for the first book in the publishers’). Besides writing, I have plans to work with zoological and conservation institutes in Indonesia such as WWF and Taman Safari to help promote animal awareness in an increasingly ignorant world.
